Homeland Security's Operation Community Shield arrests 375 more illegal alien gang members, bringing total of Mara Salvatrucha arrested to 922....
This 922 is only a small number of the many thousands of extremely violent MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha) gang members believed to be operating in this country.
What is astonishing is that many of those gang members just apprehended were actually arrested while applying for immigrant benefits. I'd like to know just what kind of immigrant benefits are, and have been, made available---not only to illegal aliens, but also to illegal alien criminal gang members!
I would also like to see the U.S. laws---or any state's laws---that authorize and fund such benefits to any illegal aliens who, by their very presence here, have already violated our federal immigration and border laws by entering this country illegally. Wouldn't you...?
It costs an enormous amount of money to find and arrest these illegal-alien criminals, hold them in our detention facilities, process them through our court systems, and then house them as convicted felons for years---before deporting them. The better solution would be to stop them from entering our country in the first place.
But that would mean enforcing our already-on-the-books federal border and immigration laws---something soft-on-illegal-aliens Michael Chertoff apparently does not get and will not do.
None of us out here are anti-immigration. What we are against is illegal immigration and the illegal invasion of our country by violent illegal alien gangs, human traffickers, and illegal drugs and weapons traffickers---sometimes accompanied and helped by members of the Mexican military. Also the infiltration into this country of foreign covert agents and potential terrorists who enter our country through this same illegal back door.
And we're against the enormous economic drain on our economy, public benefits and services, health services, court system, prison system, and education system that results from this illegal invasion and spread. Mexico and Canada enforce prevention of such intrusions into their countries. So what is it about the United States that it cannot---or will not---do the same?

"Homeland Security Reports Gang Arrests"
"Some 375 gang members have been arrested in 24 states and the District of Columbia over the past two weeks as part of a yearlong operation targeting gangs with criminal immigrant members. The arrests bring to 2,388 the number of gang members apprehended through Operation Community Shield, which combines local law enforcement with federal immigration forces. Of those arrested, 922 were members of Mara Salvatrucha gangs, which have ties to Central America.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said that previously local law enforcement might arrest gang members and not be aware they also had immigration violations that could be used "to incapacitate violent criminals." Meanwhile, immigration officials would arrest gang members and not know they were wanted for serious criminal offenses.
"In much the way we have connected the dots against the war on terror, we are now connecting the dots against gang violence," Chertoff said....
Chertoff said none of the gang members was identified as having ties to al-Qaeda, but more than 260 of those arrested in the last two weeks have committed crimes like rape, murder and assault and brought drugs and weapons into neighborhoods.... Those in the country illegally will be deported after serving any sentences, officials said....
Gang members were arrested in these states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and Virginia.
Federal officials have identified 5,000 Mara Salvatrucha gang members in a database, but the number of gang members in the country is unknown, making it difficult to determine the impact the arrests have had on its membership...."
