U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats seek 1 week delay in vote on Supreme Court nominee Judge Samuel Alito---want more time to smear & obstruct.

Charles Hurt writes this morning "Alito expected to be confirmed" :

"Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. yesterday appeared headed for confirmation to the Supreme Court after Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats exhausted their arsenal of questions without landing any devastating blows.

"It is clear to me that Judge Alito should be confirmed," said Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Republican and member of the committee. "And he will be confirmed."

Although Democrats on the committee seemed unified in their opposition to Judge Alito, a filibuster does not appear to be in the offing...."

What is in the offing, however, is that the Democrats have requested that Chairman Arlen Specter allow a one week delay before the vote. Read about it here: "Democrats Try to Slow Alito Confirmation" Hopefully, Specter will give them a Friday the 13th ruling. After all, today is Friday the 13th.

This move is a transparent attempt to give Democrat Senate Judiciary Committee members, other prominent Democrat Senators, Democrat caucus leaders, DNC, state Democrat leaders, and outside liberal interest groups time to twist arms, continue to campaign against Alito, and make deals with or influence Senate Democrats in support of an obstructionist filibuster and bloc vote against nominee Judge Alito.

I also heard Brian Wilson of FNC report that that Democrats and their outside interest groups who have enormous war chests $$$ want more time to target the former renegade "Gang of Fourteen" to try to split some of them off from supporting Alito.

Chairman Specter should deny this request and go on and call for the up or down vote to which this outstanding and well-qualified nominee is entitled under the U.S. Constitution. The Democrats are not entitled to any further time to character assassinate and wage their political politics of personal destruction war against this fine and honorable nominee. He and his family have suffered enough of their abuse.

So have the American people.

*Another column by Charles Hurt this morning, "Kennedy belongs to exclusive club," refers to Democrat Senator Ted Kennedy's membership while at Harvard in a "final club" called Owl Club. This male-only club "has long been reviled on campus as "sexist" and "elitist" and, in 1984, was booted from the university for violating federal anti-discrimination laws..."
