Some U.S. Senate Democrats and the mainstream media attempt to torpedo approval of Judge Samuel Alito to be seated on the U.S. Supreme Court
Well, who would have thought....? Early this morning, in the hours just preceding the resumption of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee's hearings on the nomination of U.S. Circuit Court Judge Samuel Alito's appointment to fill the seat of Associate Justice on the Supreme Court being vacated by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, C-Span had as its prominent guests: James Risen of The New York Times and Kate Michelman, former President of NARAL.
PelicanPost wrote, on Jan. 3, 2006, about James Risen and his article in The New York Times exposing highly-classified information to the effect that the Bush Administration was conducting domestic spying on people in the United States---and about the MSM's and hard-left Democrats' war against the Bush Administration.
Risen and Michelman were no doubt chosen to be on C-Span this morning to coordinate with the MSM's and U.S. Senate Dems' attempts to torpedo the approval of Judge Alito and take political potshots at the Administration.
As to Michelman, we all know that she is a rabid supporter of Roe v. Wade and the taking of the lives of unborn children growing in the wombs of pregnant American women. This is also a major motivation for the hard-left's assault on a very highly principled and decent man, Sam Alito, whom the left perceives to be a conservative---having been nominated by a Republican President, whom they openly and vocally despise and make the major target of their politics of personal destruction.
As I watched the Senate hearings yesterday, I was greatly impressed with the broad scope of knowledge and unabashed honesty and dignity of Alito as he was so forthcoming with answers to all questions presented, no matter how offensive, disrespectful and denigrating some of them were from the left.
Alito maintained his sincerity and dignity throughout, even in face of Democrat Senators' insulting remarks and questioning that comprised a brutal assault on his personal and professional beliefs and principles, past memberships, practices and rulings and an attempt to tar him as anti civil rights and a devious, pro-life, pro-Executive Branch fanatic that would reverse what they believe to be sacrosanct prior rulings by the lower federal courts and the Supreme Court.
Yesterday, and so far in today's hearing, Judge Alito has given both the Committee members and the American people a lesson in the proper functions of the three co-equal branches of government and a brilliant analysis of the major federal court cases in U.S. History. No other nominee in history has been so forthcoming in what has now become a grueling process in the advise and consent process in the Senate---even though there is no Constitutional basis or provision for any such screening committee in the granting power for this process from the U.S. Constitution.
We have heard rumblings for the past week of Democrats' threats of a filibuster of Judge Alito's nomination. The U.S. Constitution also makes no provisions whatsoever for filibusters---not even in approving legislation before the Senate---and certainly not for the approval process for Executive Branch nominations to fill vacancies on the U.S. Supreme Court or any vacancies anywhere in the Excutive Branch.
The Senate Democrats have imported their obstructive legislative filibuster tool into the Senate Judiciary Committee to use to block Bush nominees to the federal bench. This is unconstitutional and it is unacceptable. Yet they have the audacity to stand in the open and decry the Bush Administration and Republican members of Congress as "corrupt."
Go figure. And go and let your voice be heard against such contemptible underhandedness and unprofessional and undignified assault by Senate Democrats and the MSM on the personal and professional reputation of Judge Samuel Alito, who is a model of what is needed in a Justice of the Supreme Court.
We all know the MSM and hard-left Democrats refer to the vacancy on the Court as O'Connor's seat. That seat belongs to the American people, not to any specific justice and no one gave a handful of Democrat Senators the right to stand in the way of the voice of the American people, as exercised by their election of 100 U.S. Senators to vote on presidential nominees sent to the U.S. Senate for approval.
